Trout Fishing in the Texas Hill Country

Brandon and I spent some time in the Texas Hill Country last week filming and fly fishing. We met Brandon’s buddy, Dan Cone, who guides on the Guadalupe River and works at Action Anglers during the winter. Brandon and Dan are friends from when the guided in Colorado together. Dan still spends his summers in Colorado.

Due to the low water levels and flows we waded at several different locations on the river. Our target species was trout, rainbows specifically. The morning started off slow despite seeing good numbers of fish. The fish weren’t feeding.

As the day grew late the fish became more active and started feeding. We managed to land a decent number of fish. Most of the fish were on the small side but we did see some good trout meandering around. The key to finding fish was to keep moving and checking out new pools. The fish are schooled up, so where there’s one there’s more.
