If Some is Good…More is Better

Fishing has been outstanding. I’ve been all over the map here on the Upper Texas Coast, from east to west, and have found redfish schooled up shallow at every location. It has been very easy to find them. Just look for birds hovering, bait fleeing, or listen for the distinct sound that a redfish makes when it’s crashing the surface.

If it’s any indication of how crazy the fishing has been I even landed a redfish on a bare hook (See Video), which drives down the point that when redfish are in a feeding mode they will eat anything in their path.

Had another great day with the fly rod and topped my previous best of 10 reds on the fly with 11 slot reds landed. On my way to the marsh I was also able to catch a bunch of small cookie-cutter trout along with two solid keepers at 19″ and 21″ on TTF Flats Minnows in morning glory and liquid shrimp. I also landed two slot reds on Flats Minnows and my big fish of the day came on a bare jighead.

No big fish this time but every fish I landed was between 23″ – 26″. Caught all my fish in 6″ to 1.5′ of water on a slow outgoing tide. The mid-day bite, from 10:00 to 2:00, has seemed to be the best lately, especially with the cooler weather.
